Show Hall to On-line Competition

With Covid-19 in full swing, a number of people were missing the regular Cat Show calendar. Cat Shows for many are a great way to meet like minded cat lovers, and for many of us we have been feeling a little lost without the social aspect of showing, and being able to see their cats in full glory at a show.

Co-founder of Registered Pets, Claudia Dickens started thinking up ideas around bringing the cat show world online. With a background in event management, Claudia loves her cats and is a regular attendee of cat shows throughout the year. She discussed the opportunity with Co-founder Lucy Skelton of arranging a virtual cat show online, so that people could participate, have some much needed lighthearted fun, whilst using the opportunity to raise some vital funds for the charities that have been struggling this year, too. Cat Rescues in particular have not been able to fundraise like they normally would due to Covid and the restrictions throughout the country.

Claudia and Lucy discussed which rescues they would support, and it was decided they would fundraise for Ragdoll Rescue UK and Willowsway Cat Rescue, based in Northwich. They set about deciding on the number of classes, it started out at 5, increased to 7 and then 11 😹

We approached various people and asked them to judge the classes, asked people for support in sponsoring a class by providing a prize to the winner of each class. The support from everyone was overwhelming.

We purchased Rosettes for the Top 3 of each Class.

Each Class had an overall Winner, 2nd and 3rd place. The winner won a prize and all 3 placings won rosettes, along with a small gift.
Each Class Winner was shortlisted for overall Best In Show - 11 Classes for Best In Show with a Winner and Reserve.

People paid to enter photos into the competition. We had various online Raffles for people to join in.

A slight twist to our fundraising……………

As we were starting to plan the event, Alison Reynolds (Ragdoll Rescue) and Claudia were contacted by a gentleman who unfortunately fell foul of a person who doesn’t register Ragdolls, he purchased two Ragdoll kittens, not registered, both very young, extremely underweight and poorly, one died within 12 hours of him owning it, the other not long after that, the person it now known for doing this!

Long story cut short, he contacted Alison and Claudia for help and advice......... Claudia has since helped him to reserve two kittens from a lovely breeder, with has a good reputation and the kittens will be registered - he collects them in January 2021. The gentleman wanted to give something back to the Ragdoll breed - he very kindly donated £1,000 to this event for the Ragdoll Rescue to benefit from. Therefore Ragdoll Rescue UK received £2,018 in total.

Claudia & Lucy would like to thank everyone who joined in, along with everyone who supported by donating prizes, gifts and raffles - a massive thank you.

Everyone appeared to thoroughly enjoyed the show and have been asked if we can plan another. Here’s to March 2021! Follow our Facebook page to find out about our next show and please join in.

Best Wishes.

Claudia & Lucy 🐈🏵
